Why is it important to get the flu vaccines?
Flu, or influenza, is a highly contagious viral infection that peaks during the winter months, between June and September. It can be spread easily from one person to another, through close contact, sneezing and even a simple act of coughing. Though self-limiting in most cases, the flu can lead to severe complications in some cases, which may lead to hospitalisation and death. The flu may also lead to a worsening of existing medical conditions, such as lung diseases, heart conditions and diabetes, to name a few.
In addition to protecting yourself from getting the flu, getting the flu vaccination will also contribute towards preventing the spread of the flu in the community, also known as herd immunity.
The annual flu vaccination is the recommended way to prevent the flu and contribute towards herd immunity, protecting you, your loved ones and our community. Contact one of our pharmacies today and one of our Caring Pharmacists will provide you with further information.
